Tribal Enforcement Officer

Graveyard 10PM-6AM & Swing shift 2PM-10PM

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE OR REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two (2) years of prior Law Enforcement, Military, or Security experience.

  • Valid CA driver’s license, verified by DMV H-6 printout.

  • Current CA Guard Card.

  • Fluently speak, write, and understand English.

  • Basic knowledge of computer and hand held devices.

  • Must be at least 21 years old.

  • Ability to make sound professional decisions.

  • Ability to thoroughly document and investigate incidents.

  • Familiar with Public Law 280 is a plus.

  • To be considered for the position; DMV H-6 printout, California Guard Card, Baton Card, and OC Spray must be current and available at time of interview.

EDUCATION LEVEL:

High School Diploma or GED is required. College education is preferred.

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The goal of the Barona Tribal Enforcement Unit is to provide a safe and secure quality of life to the members of the Barona Band of Mission Indians and their guests. We provide patrol services to all Tribal Lands except for the Casino, Golf Course, and Casino Parking Lots. BTE utilizes a combination of vehicle patrol and other means of patrol in order to make ourselves highly visible on the reservation.

General Accountant

DEPARTMENT:

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE OR REQUIREMENTS:

  • Core Responsibilities: The primary focus is managing all aspects of the bi-weekly payroll cycle and monthly tribal member distributions while ensuring compliance and accuracy. 

  • Payroll Processing & Auditing: Verifying, auditing, and processing bi-weekly payroll.  Reviewing and ensuring timecard compliance and accuracy. Transmitting direct deposits and generating manual checks. Initiating other non-payroll distributions such as tribal member Per Cap payments and bonuses.

  • Compliance & Tax Filing: Remitting all necessary deductions (e.g., taxes, 401(k), insurance, garnishments, FSA). Compiling, completing, and filing quarterly and annual payroll taxes and other required Federal, State, and Local government information. Ensuring proper authorization and documentation for all disbursements.

  •  Employee Support & Partnerships: Interpreting and explaining payroll policies and answering employee technical questions. Partnering with Human Resources on accurate and timely benefit processing. Supporting external audit work for payroll, benefits, and HR.

  • Key Accounting & Grant Support: The role also includes important accounting functions beyond payroll:

  •  General Ledger (GL) Maintenance:  Reconciling the payroll system with the GL, and performing posting and reconciliation of other assigned GL accounts. 

  • Grant Support: Assisting with tracking, draw-downs, recording, and reconciliation for federal and private grants.

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field. 5-10 years of increasingly responsible professional accounting/payroll experience. 

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

This role is a highly detail-oriented general accounting position focused on the complete payroll cycle, grant accounting, general ledger maintenance, and compliance. It serves a crucial function in ensuring timely and accurate compensation for employees, cash distributions for tribal members, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. while maintaining strict adherence to financial and accounting standards/regulations.

Recreational Leader II

DEPARTMENT:

(Occasional flexibility needed from time to time)

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE OR REQUIREMENTS:

  • Opens and closes facilities.

  • Plans/Implements daily, weekly, or long-term activity schedule.

  • Distributes and maintains control over equipment including pre- and post-event inspection and documentation.

  • Provides participant supervision for sports, special events, after school programs, day camps, arts and Crafts, field trips or other recreation programs.

  • Prepares recreational areas for use by ensuring that appropriate equipment and supplies are available for classes and events; sets up and takes down equipment.

  • Organizes groups according to age and interest.

  • Plans field trips, organizes, promotes and develops interest in arts & crafts, sports games hobbies, etc.

  • Administers first aid when necessary.

  • Prepares and records incident reports and communicates with parents, exercises independent judgement.

  • Lead and administer recreation and sports programs including inter-Tribal sport programs.

  • Organizes operational activities within multiple program areas.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION LEVEL:

HS Diploma or equivalent required.

2-3 years of administrative experience preferred. Equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered. Experience in a Recreation environment preferred.

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Under general supervision, performs support work related to recreational programs, events, and activities; provides instruction and conducts classes/activities for program participants under the guidance and direction of higher-level staff; prepares buildings, fields, and facilities for scheduled activities or events; provides routine administrative support; and performs related work as required.

Tribal Enforcement Lieutenant

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE OR REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responsible for a wide range of supervisory, operational, and administrative duties.

  • Maintaining training compliance, overseeing performance, and ensuring staff conduct themselves in a professional and culturally respectful manner.

  • Supervising and evaluating Sergeants, Officers, and Dispatch personnel.

  • Providing coaching, mentoring, and corrective action as needed.

  • Overseeing training programs and certification compliance.

  • Preparing accurate and concise written reports.

  • Monitoring staff performance, documentation, and risk-related concerns.

  • Ensuring personnel follow departmental policies, expectations, and core values.

  • Utilizing safe driving techniques when operating tribal government vehicles.

  • Managing scheduling and operational assignments.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Tribal Enforcement.

EDUCATION LEVEL:

High School diploma or equivalent required, college education preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of PL-280, local laws, codes, and California law enforcement standards preferred, experience working with a Tribal Government or Tribal community. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test. Ability to obtain and maintain all required Tribal Enforcement certifications. POST Management or Supervisory certificate preferred (not required).

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Director of Tribal Enforcement, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Tribal Enforcement Department, including supervision of Sergeants, Officers, and Dispatch; training oversight; and ensuring consistent adherence to departmental standards, policies, and procedures. The Lieutenant works closely with Tribal Government and allied agencies, including the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department under (PL-280), CHP, Barona Fire Department, and others, to support community safety, maintain operational readiness, and ensure all personnel represent Barona’s cultural values and professional expectations.
